High standards for Seb
One former Academy scholar at Middlesbrough FC who seems to have caught the eye of many people in the game is defender Seb Hines.
Born in Leeds and raised in nearby Wetherby, Seb’s career began in a whirl when he played for England Under 16s, earned his scholarship with Boro, won the Nike Cup and travelled to America – all a great experience.
Seb made a remarkable start to his Middlesbrough career when he scored on his first team debut to help the side to a 4-3 victory over Hull City in an FA Cup Third Round replay against Hull City.
The talented 19-year-old has already made an impact for England at Under 16, Under 17 and Under 19 level – and but for a serious knee injury his career would have taken off even further.
Seb has nothing but praise for Boro’s Academy, which consistently produces good young players. “It is one of the best Academies in the country,” he says. “Dave Parnaby and all the staff there are really good coaches.
“They can be hard on you because they have high standards. They always make you run that extra yard and go that extra 10 per cent as they will never settle for second best.”
