A greater understanding of diversity
All Premier League clubs are working to meet the first level of the Racial Equality Standard for Professional Clubs – developed by Kick It Out with the support of the Premier League – which is helping scholars gain an increased understanding of diversity issues.
An increasing number of clubs have already gained the first level of the Standard, ensuring that equality policies are implemented in all areas of their operation – from the recruitment of young players to stewarding. The clubs are reporting back an increased understanding of diversity issues through their organisation.
The Standard is a framework document setting out a series of measures that supports the development of racial equality practices and policies within a club environment.
The document was developed by Kick It Out, with the support of the FA Premier League and from source materials including Sporting Equal’s Achieving Racial Equality: A Standard for Sport.
Kick It Out and all Premier League clubs have worked towards the 2007 Week of Action, which will take place between 18-30 October. Hundreds of events took place as part of last year’s Week of Action and the same will apply this time.
The events – many of which involved club scholars - ranged from football festivals to photography projects to special matchdays at football clubs.
